Neck Rejuvenation: What to Expect

There are many signs of aging we all look out for. When we notice a dull, uneven complexion, we turn to moisturizers and serums. When we notice fine lines, we stock up on collagen creams and retinols. But what can we do for skin laxity found on the neck? There isn’t much anyone can do to fight against the effects of gravity. At Le Beau Visage Medical Spa in Frisco, TX we are proud to offer the best high-tech solutions to all of your skin concerns, including the latest in neck rejuvenation treatments.

What Is Neck Rejuvenation?

“Rejuvenation treatment” is a broad term for the methods that are used to tighten skin and restore a youthful appearance. For the neck, there are a few different methods of rejuvenation commonly found in cosmetic clinics, including surgical and non-surgical treatments. At our office, we specialize in non-surgical treatments that are rooted in the latest technological advancements. The rejuvenation treatments we specialize in include:

Morpheus8

This is a rejuvenation treatment based in a combination of microneedling and radiofrequency technology to correct skin laxity. This minimally invasive treatment remodels subdermal tissue in the sub-layers of skin to stimulate the production of collagen in order to restore skin volume. Morpheus8 mainly addresses skin laxity issues found in the lower jaw. Morpheus8 is one of the newest treatment methods for lax skin on the face and neck.

Fractora

This minimally invasive rejuvenation treatment uses bipolar radiofrequency and microneedling to gently heat the subdermal tissues of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Fractora is a popular option for correcting fine lines and wrinkles all over the skin on the face, including firming the skin beneath the chin and on the neck.

Forma

This rejuvenation treatment is ideal for mild to moderate skin laxity in the jowls, jaw, and upper neck. Forma uses radiofrequency waves to deliver heat to the sub-layers of skin to stimulate collagen production from the inside. Forma can also be used on other areas of the face for a gentle, natural-looking lift. This particular technique requires several sessions to achieve the desired results, but results from this treatment also last for a long time.

Why Radiofrequency Works

Radiofrequency technology has become a popular cosmetic treatment in the last decade, and for good reason. Radiofrequency is favored for being gentle, effective, and painless. This type of technology stimulates the body’s own regenerative abilities to turn back the clock and restore a youthful appearance.

The key to radiofrequency treatments is the small amount of heat that the device directs to the subdermal layers of the skin. Heat and gentle pressure work to stimulate the production of two key proteins: collagen and elastin. These are responsible for plump, youthful-looking skin. Stimulating the production of these proteins is more efficient than using topical creams, and the results can last for several months at a time.

Benefits of Neck Rejuvenation

There are many benefits of rejuvenation treatments on the neck that are appealing to patients. These benefits are common motivators for patients who are seeking rejuvenation treatments and include:

  • Reduced appearance of wrinkles
  • Reduction of excess skin
  • Tightening and lifting of lax skin
  • Tightening of the neck muscles
  • Contouring of the chin and jaw
  • A more youthful, healthy appearance

An additional benefit of these rejuvenation treatments is the high compatibility these techniques have with other types of treatments, such as those for the face. Many radiofrequency treatments are designed to be used on multiple areas of the body, including the face, neck, and collarbones. These treatments can also be combined with treatments such as hydrafacials and microdermabrasion.

No matter which benefit appeals most to you, each of the rejuvenation treatments offered at our office will produce many of the same benefits. We will help you determine which of our treatments, or which combination of treatments, is best for your personal needs and your aesthetic goals.

The Neck Rejuvenation Process

What is the process for skin rejuvenation on the neck? Many patients find comfort in knowing what to expect from a rejuvenation treatment, but finding information on the procedural steps of these treatments can sometimes be difficult. Learn about the general steps you can expect from Morpheus8, Fractora, and Forma treatments before your first appointment.

Initial Appointment

Your first appointment will be a consultation at our office where we will gather important information from you. We will examine the condition of your skin and discuss your aesthetic goals at length. We will ask about your general medical history, including any medications or supplements you are currently taking, products you are currently using, and any cosmetic treatments you have had in the past.

We may take photographs of your neck and jaw to add to your medical file. These photographs will act as a reference for your treatment plan and will also be used to track the progress of your treatment.

It is possible we will determine that other rejuvenation treatments are more appropriate for your case. Our goal is to provide you with comprehensive care, and that includes advising you on the treatments that are best suited for your needs and goals.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

There are a few pre-treatment guidelines you will be asked to follow in the days before your treatment appointment. These guidelines are designed to ensure that you respond well to the treatment. Some pre-treatment guidelines include:

  • Avoid the use of certain topical products
  • Avoid taking certain medications
  • Avoid alcohol or certain foods that cause swelling

We may provide you with other pre-treatment guidelines that are tailored to the rejuvenation treatment you plan to have.

Step One: Cleanse

The first step of your treatment will be to cleanse the targeted treatment area. We will use a gentle cleanser to remove make-up, dirt, oil, and lotions from the skin. It is important that the skin be a clean canvas for the rejuvenation devices to work as intended.

Step Two: Cooling Gel or Numbing Cream

Depending on your treatment, we will apply a cooling gel, numbing cream, or a combination of both before we use the device. Pain from these treatments is minimal, however many patients prefer to minimize discomfort by using these topical products. Cooling gels act as a barrier between the skin and the heat of the device while also helping the device glide smoothly across skin. The numbing cream is a topical anesthetic that is commonly used in microneedling treatments for patient comfort.

Step Three: Radiofrequency Treatment

Once your skin is sufficiently prepared, we will begin the treatment process. The radiofrequency devices deliver a low-level, gentle heat for several moments at a time to each treatment area. Many patients compare the feeling of these treatments to the skin being “ironed”. You should not feel more than some mild sensation for the duration of the treatment.

The length of time the treatment session lasts depends on both the type of treatment being used and how many areas of skin are being treated. Most treatment sessions for the neck area last between 10 and 30 minutes from start to finish. After we have treated your skin, we will use a gentle cleanser to remove the gel or cream from your skin. We may apply a moisturizer or other product to your skin at this time.

Post-Treatment Guidelines

After your treatment, you will be provided with post-treatment guidelines. These guidelines are meant to help you through your recovery so that you have the best possible chance of responding well to the treatment. Some post-treatment guidelines include:

  • Avoid the use of certain topical products
  • Avoid the use of make-up for at least 24 hours
  • Avoid sun exposure, excessive heat, and excessive sweating
  • Avoid taking certain medications
  • Use medications or products we prescribe to you
  • Use sunscreen

Recovery

Recovery from rejuvenation treatments varies based on your selected treatment. Generally speaking, downtime from any radiofrequency treatment for skin rejuvenation is very short. While you can immediately return to your normal daily activities following treatment, you can also expect to spend 2 to 5 days following post-treatment guidelines and minimizing your activity. Most patients are fully recovered within 1 week following treatment.

You may experience some redness or minor swelling at the treatment site following your treatment. These are expected side effects that resolve themselves in the hours immediately after your treatment. We may provide you with advice on minimizing these side effects, such as using cold compresses on the skin.

Results

Many patients notice immediate results after their treatment. However, it is more common to begin noticing results 1 to 2 weeks after your treatment. Because of the way radiofrequency treatments work, you will continue to see greater noticeable results for up to 3 months following your treatment.

Most patients have treatment plans that involve multiple treatment sessions. Depending on the severity of your skin laxity, we will advise 1 to 3 sessions spaced about 1 month apart to achieve the desired aesthetic goals. The results of these treatments build on each other, so the more sessions you have, the longer your results will last. We will help you determine how many sessions are required to reach your ideal appearance.

Many patients choose to rejuvenate the face and neck at the same time. In some cases, we encourage facial rejuvenation alongside treating the neck to produce a more cohesive and natural-looking appearance. Determining the best areas for treatment will be part of the personalized treatment plan we help you create.

How Long Does Neck Rejuvenation Last?

Rejuvenation treatments last for different amounts of time based on the treatment method and the number of treatment sessions you have. At a minimum, results from skin rejuvenation with radiofrequency last for six months after the last treatment session. Some treatments, such as Forma, have results that last for 6 to 10 years.

It is possible that your treatment method may require annual sessions, spaced 6 months to 1 year apart, to maintain the results of the treatment. We will help you create a treatment plan that will help you maintain your desired results.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for neck rejuvenation include women and men who have noticed greater laxity in the skin on their neck and beneath their jaw. This treatment can be used to treat mild, moderate, and severe cases of skin laxity. You may be interested in this treatment if you want to:
