How Platelet-Rich Plasma Works for Hair Restoration

Hair loss is a very common problem, and many patients try to restore their hair with invasive scalp grafts and hair transplants. While those procedures can be effective, they often result in a wide variety of unwanted side effects. If you would like to restore your hair but aren’t ready to undergo an invasive operation, then you need to take a closer look at platelet-rich plasma therapy. This innovative procedure is going to rejuvenate your damaged hair follicles in a matter of months, and you should be able to maintain your results for years with touch-up treatments.

A Look at Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

PRP therapy was originally developed because doctors were looking for new ways to speed up the recovery process. After years of exhaustive research, they realized that our blood contains unique platelets that stimulate the production of healthy growth factors. When those platelets are extracted from the blood and then injected back into a patient’s soft tissue, the body will heal itself. After perfecting this technique, doctors began using PRP therapy to treat a wide range of injuries and cosmetic conditions.

When platelet-rich plasma is injected into the scalp, it repairs any hair follicles that have been damaged over the years. As the cells are being rejuvenated, your hair will naturally begin to grow. The results aren’t immediate, but you should notice distinct improvements within weeks of your first appointment. Once you have achieved your goals, you can contact our office every few months to schedule touch-up appointments.

PRP Hair Loss Treatments

We personalize all of our PRP treatments, but most appointments follow the same few steps. When you arrive at our office, you will be taken to a private room where one of our team members can extract a small sample of your blood. In order to create the platelet-rich plasma, we will place that sample in a medical device known as a centrifuge.

That device spins the vial at a very high speed to separate the plasma from all of the other molecules that are inside your blood. The total length of each procedure depends on a few different factors, but most patients are in and out of our practice in under an hour.

Am I an Ideal Candidate?

You are probably going to be an excellent candidate as long as you have relatively healthy skin and realistic expectations. If you have recently tried other hair restoration treatments, then we might suggest that you delay your PRP appointments for a short period of time. This procedure works best when your skin is healthy and undamaged. Please call or stop by Le Beau Visage Medical Spa in Frisco to see if platelet-rich plasma therapy is right for you.
