Skin Care Plano TX: What To Do About Your Aging Skin

For North Texans in their teens and twenties, the main skin care issue is usually acne.  Although dealing with the appearance and treatment of acne can be difficult, skin care in Plano TX for people in their thirties, forties and beyond can become more than difficult, it can become a full-time job.  Why?  Because so many things happen to our skin as we age that mitigating them involves a shelf-full of lotions, creams and vitamins, not to mention a host of sophisticated, professional treatments designed to keep us looking as youthful as possible.  If you haven’t reached the age where your skin worries go beyond acne, here are some things you can look forward to and what you can do about them:

In Your Thirties ????

When you enter your thirties, your skin’s production of new cells begins to slow down.  In addition, the production of collagen and elastin, which give your skin strength and elasticity, slows down, which means you’ll begin to see tiny wrinkles forming around your eyes and mouth.  These ‘expression’ lines are only made worse if you smoke, which causes you to purse your lips more than someone who doesn’t smoke.  In your thirties, your body’s lymphatic system stops carrying away toxins as effectively as it did in your twenties so you may notice that the skin around your eyes gets puffier at times and that the overall look of your skin is duller.

In Your Forties ????

Not only does your lymphatic system continue to slow down, resulting in more facial puffiness, but sebum production decreases as well.  Sebum is the oil secreted by your skin that keeps your hair and skin from drying out.  Less sebum means your skin is more vulnerable to the effects of environmental pollutants.  Along with less sebum, your estrogen levels will begin their decline and, because estrogen aids in keeping your skin tight, you’ll notice more sagging of the skin on your face and neck.

In Your Fifties and Beyond ????

In addition to an increase in all of the skin problems you started experiencing when you were younger, you can also look forward to the appearance of age spots on your skin, enlarged pores as your skin sags and more dry, flaky, wrinkled skin.  The skin on your eyelids and your neck will start to droop and you may also notice more tiny, spider veins appearing on your skin as a result of sun-damaged blood vessels.

The key to great skin care in Plano TX – at any age – is moisture, inside and outside.  Find a great, rich moisturizing cream that will carry you from your twenties into your fifties and beyond.  In addition, make sure to drink plenty of water.  Stopping smoking and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol is another key to attractive skin.  As you reach your forties and fifties, you can begin to investigate the benefits of professional skin treatments that can take the form of Botox injections, laser facials, chemical peels and more.
