Tips To Prepare For Your First Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Due to its effective, safe, and efficient way of removing unwanted hair from the body, laser hair removal treatment is becoming a popular used by millions of people. If you are considering this innovative and convenient option for removing unwanted hair, it is important to familiarize yourself with the procedure’s process. With this guide, you can prepare yourself for your first hair removal treatment.

Avoid Waxing and Tweezing

During the removal process, the laser will need to locate and target the hair follicles that you want to remove. If you wax or tweeze your hair before your appointment, the laser will not be able to locate the follicles. For the best results, avoid waxing and tweezing hair for 6 weeks before your laser removal appointment.

Thankfully, shaving is an acceptable form or removing hair before your laser treatment. The blades of a razor will only cut the hair off the skin’s surface. The razor blade will not affect the hair follicles under your skin. Make sure to shave the area that you want to be treated 24 hours before laser hair removal. Use a new razor, as well, to reduce the risk of bacteria, which can lead to dermatitis.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Avoiding direct sunlight for 72 hours before your laser treatment is imperative. While the Laser Hair Removal light is safe, it directs a large amount of heat onto the skin’s surface during treatment. If you have recently been in the sun, the laser will remove the hair from your skin, but the laser’s heat may also burn and scar the treated area.

Avoid Makeup and Topical Creams

Bathing before your appointment is fine, but do not apply any makeup, moisturizer, serums, lotions, or perfume to your skin the day of your appointment.

These substances can cover the skin, blocking the laser’s ability to locate and target the hair follicles. Make sure your skin is clean and shaved, but avoid any application of topical products.

Take Medication

Most people do not experience any pain during the procedure. However, if you have a low pain tolerance or are feeling some anxiety over the upcoming appointment, consider taking a mild oral painkiller about 20 to 30 minutes before your laser treatment.

It is important to note that you should consult your hair removal technician before taking the painkiller.
