What To Do With Itchy Red Dots and Skin Bumps After Laser Removal Treatment

What to do with itchy red dots on skin after laser hair removal | Laser hair removal saves you the time and trouble of shaving or waxing underarms, legs, and other body parts. If you have naturally thick eyebrows, it eliminates painful tweezing. Laser removal treatment takes anywhere from a minute for small areas, such as a woman’s upper lip, to a half hour or more for a man’s back.

During treatment, a beam of light targets follicles with unwanted hair and leaves the skin surrounding it unaffected. Laser treatment is suitable only for dark hair – it won’t work on gray, blonde or red hair.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

Before setting up an appointment, it’s important to talk to your dermatologist or doctor to make sure you don’t have light sensitivity or another underlying medical condition. When your dermatologist gives you the all clear, set up a consultation with a laser hair removal specialist.  Discuss any concerns you have with the medical aesthetician who will perform your treatment. He or she will let you know what to expect during the session, and any potential risks or benefits of the procedure.

Stay out of the sun for a few days before your treatment. If your skin is tan, there’s a greater risk of discoloration after treatment. Tan skin has more melanin, and laser hair removal devices target this substance.

Shave the area to be treated one to three days before your appointment. Don’t use depilatory creams, Epilady, electrolysis, tweezers or waxing for a month to six weeks before treatment.

Any substance applied to your skin in the day before treatment could interfere with the laser. Don’t use sunless tanners, bronzers or moisturizing cream for 24 hours before your appointment. If your underarms are being treated, don’t use deodorant for a day or two prior to treatment.

What to Do With Itchy Red Dots on Skin After Laser Hair Removal?

If you notice hair growing back after laser hair removal, just shave as normal. Don’t pluck or wax – leave the roots intact. Exfoliate your skin with a loofah or towel in the shower two or three times a week. Rub skin gently to shed dead skin cells.  If you go out in the sun, wear sunscreen, and avoid sunbathing and tanning for one to two weeks after treatment.
