Many adults and even some children have the tiny blue, red or purple web-like veins on their legs or face. These are commonly called spider veins and are officially called telangiectasia. They are permanent and rarely go away by themselves. The tiny veins are perpetually dilated and require treatment to disappear. Since they may not be a health hazard, many people try to cover them and ignore them, but if they are on your face, or if they cause embarrassment when you are in summer clothing, then laser vein therapy may be a good option for you.
Laser vein therapy is considered the standard treatment for spider veins. It is non-surgical and can be done in the comfort of our office. When you consult with our specialist, your spider veins will be examined and, if there are other symptoms, further investigation may be needed. The best treatment may be recommended.
Laser vein therapy involves exposing the vein to the laser light. It is a hand-held device that our trained technician holds over the spider vein. The heat from the laser causes the blood in the vein to coagulate and eventually collapse and seal closed. The vein will gradually be absorbed by the body and disappear in the weeks following the treatment. The treatment is so precise that it only targets the affected vein and does not damage the surrounding skin.
After the treatment, we strongly recommend that you stay out of the sun. Otherwise, you can go back to your normal daily activities immediately, as there is virtually no downtime. You may be asked to wear compression stockings for a set amount of time after the treatment to facilitate healing.
Depending on the number of veins being treated, the therapy usually takes less than an hour. If multiple treatments are needed, they will be spaced out a set amount of time apart.
Once the spider veins are gone, they will not return, but new ones could form. If this happens, more treatments may be required. With laser vein therapy at Le Beau Visage Med Spa, the appearance of spider veins on your face, thighs, ankles, or calves could be gone forever, giving your skin a more youthful appearance.
