Botox and other injectables are becoming more and more popular for reducing the signs of aging. Many consider these treatments for a way to turn back the signs of time.
Cosmetic Filler Injectables
A cosmetic filler injectable is used to alter a facial profile to create a more youthful appearance. The injected filler is inserted under the skin, filling deep wrinkles and folds that tend to develop around the nose and mouth. Fillers are also used to increase the fullness of the lips and to add padding to the hollow eye and cheek areas. While there was a time when collagen was the standard filler injectable, Restylane has become increasing more popular.
Do Cosmetic Filler Injectables Hurt?
Patients experience some discomfort when cosmetic fillers are injected. The level of pain depends on the area being treated and the pain tolerance level of the patient. There can be some moderate burning sensations when fillers are injected around the nose and mouth. Since some patients can experience a far stronger burning sensation in the lip area, an anesthetic is typically used before fillers are injected there.
Anti-wrinkle Injectables
There are several anti-wrinkle injectables available that will reduce expression lines on the face. One of the most popular is Botox. Botox injectables prevent the facial skin from creasing by relaxing the muscles. This injectable is quite effective as a treatment for surprise and frown lines that develop on the forehead area, lines on the throat and crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes.
Do Botox Injectables Hurt?
There is a slight amount of discomfort associated with Botox injectables. Many patients compare the sensation to sting or bite from a small insect. Typically these pinching sensations only last a couple of seconds. Since this treatment involves several injections in each of the areas to be treated, the patient will experience several of these sensations throughout the entire procedure.
Regardless of the type of injectable, there are some steps that can be taken to reduce the discomfort from the procedure and the effects on the skin once the treatment is complete. Many doctors will apply a topical anesthetic such a lidocaine to the area to ease any discomfort at the injection site. Some patients bruise more easily than others, and each reaction will depend on the individual patient being treated. Some bruising can last for about a week. Some patients decide to stay home from work until the bruising subsides however not all lines of work offer this opportunity.
