Microneedling

Introduction

Introduction to Microneedling

Microneedling, also called Collagen Induction Therapy, works by triggering the body’s natural wound-healing response to firm and rejuvenate the skin from within. A series of tiny needles create micro-injuries, triggering enhanced production of collagen, a protein that boosts skin suppleness, resilience, and radiance.

Our experienced Le Beau Visage Medical Spa practitioners, led by award-winning physician and anti-aging specialist Dr. Jason M. Riehs, perform both traditional microneedling and PRP-enhanced microneedling to patients all over the North Dallas and Plano metropolitan areas, including, but not limited to, Frisco, McKinney, and Allen, Texas.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a method of revitalizing the skin without surgery or lasers. It relies on the body’s natural ability to heal and renew itself through the production of collagen. When an injury occurs, the skin produces more collagen to seal off the wound, contracting the pores in the process. This mechanism is exploited by microneedling for cosmetic benefit rather than for self-preservation. By producing tiny, bloodless injuries using a series of ultra-fine needles, microneedling can trigger impressive skin remodeling and tightening, leading to a more refreshed and attractive appearance.

Microneedling can combat the following cosmetic concerns:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Rough skin texture
  • Poor skin tone
  • Volume loss
  • Skin sagging
  • Sun damage
  • Rosacea

Microneedling with Skinpen

SkinPen is a breakthrough microneedling technology that is the first of its kind to be approved by the FDA. This safe and effective device is equipped with several microneedles at its tip and, when contact is made with the skin, creates a series of microchannels barely visible to the naked eye. The body responds to the creation of these microchannels by stimulating its production of collagen – the skin’s main structural protein – to renew and revitalize the skin on a cellular level. Over time, and with an optimal treatment plan, we can help you reclaim youthful, radiant skin! Ultimately, results will vary.

PRP Microneedling with DermaFrac

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments—more commonly known as “Vampire Facials”—provide volume, lift, wrinkle-smoothing, and tightening in a 30-minute treatment with no downtime or discomfort. Made popular by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Victoria’s Secret model Bar Rafaeli, PRP treatments can help improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and slack pores.

While most providers administer platelet-rich plasma via dozens of sticks with a standard Botox needle, the cosmetic industry has taken a giant leap forward with the addition of the DermaFrac microneedling vacuum pen, which sends the plasma deep beneath the skin via tiny, painless needles.

In addition to a more comfortable patient experience, DermaFrac provides more uniform PRP distribution than is possible with conventional techniques. The addition of the microneedles also boosts the collagen-building effects of the growth hormones in the patient’s plasma.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Both conventional and PRP microneedling come with a host of benefits that can revolutionize your skincare regimen and boost your confidence. Advantages include:

  • Reduces wrinkles, lines, and creases
  • Rejuvenates skin tone and texture
  • Exfoliates damaged skin cells
  • Increases the efficacy of topical serums
  • Improves skin hydration
  • Enhances collagen output
  • Gentle, minimally invasive procedure
  • Little to no downtime

Who Are the Best Candidates for Microneedling?

Microneedling is a safe and effective treatment for almost everyone. The only patients who should avoid microneedling are those with active acne, skin infections, or wound-healing problems. Dr. Riehs will conduct a thorough consultation at his office in Frisco, TX, to ensure that your cosmetic goals will be met in a safe and successful fashion.

Let’s Get Started

What’s the First Step?

The first step along your journey to a revitalized complexion is to meet with Dr. Riehs and his team for a private, in-depth consultation. During this initial meeting, we will evaluate your skin concerns, go over your medical history, and begin to formulate a unique treatment plan for resolving your aesthetic issues.

Once your microneedling session has been scheduled, you may be asked to follow a few simple guidelines. These include avoiding direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment and discontinuing the use of blood thinners, retinoids, and acid-based topical products for 1-3 days before treatment. On the day of your microneedling session, gently cleanse your skin and avoid applying any cosmetics, perfumes, lotions, creams, or serums. You can take a Tylenol about one hour before the procedure to help minimize any discomfort.

What to Expect on the Day of a Microneedling Treatment

As a first step, the skin is cleaned and treated with a topical numbing agent to enhance your comfort and relaxation. Once you are ready, the microneedling device will be passed over the skin, creating near-invisible punctures that stimulate collagen renewal. If you selected PRP microneedling, the platelet-rich plasma will be applied to the pores at this time to encourage cellular regeneration and repair.

Microneedling Recovery

Healing time after microneedling can vary based on the techniques utilized, the extent of the work performed, and your own recuperation abilities. In general, patients can expect mild redness, sensitivity, and swelling to last from 2 to 5 days. These side effects typically do not interfere with the resumption of normal activities, however. After the initial recovery phase is over, your body will continue producing more collagen, leading to impressive skin rejuvenation results after 2-4 weeks. These results will continue to evolve over the course of several months.
