Morpheus8™ is a new type of skin tightening treatment that combines radio frequency with microneedling. How It Works
By itself, microneedling uses an applicator to make tiny punctures in the top layers of the skin, which stimulates the body to send healing compounds and proteins such as collagen and elastin to the area. It also prompts the body to make fresh new skin cells. Radio frequency uses heat instead of physical wounds to do the same thing, but it penetrates more deeply into the skin and fat than does microneedling.
The Procedure
Morpheus8™ treatment employs a handheld device that has 24 needles. These are actually electric probes whose lengths can be adjusted to penetrate the different thicknesses of skin of the face and the body. This means that the delicate skin around the eyes can be treated at the same time as the thicker skin around the jowls. When the probes penetrate, they deliver skin tightening heat energy made through radio frequencies. When the heat reaches the fat, it coagulates and tightens it. The heat then travels up the probes to the top layer of the skin, which tightens it as well.
The treatment is an outpatient procedure, so the patient can go home right after the session. There is no need for drains or dressings, though there is some swelling, sensitivity and redness. The patient should be completely healed from Morpheus8™ after seven to 10 days, and they will start to see results at six weeks. The improvements will continue up to 12 weeks, then the patient can return for maintenance treatments.
Who Are Candidates for Skin Tightening?
The best candidates for this treatment are healthy people who are troubled loose, sagging skin in their jowl, neck, bra area, abdomen or flanks or knees but do not want invasive surgery to treat them. The treatment is also good for stretch mars and some cellulite. People who aren’t good candidates for the treatment are people who are pregnant, have skin lesions in the treatment area and who have a pacemaker.
